LASPNET EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NOMINATED FOR UGANDA LAW SOCIETY AWARD

The LASPNET Executive Director Ms.Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa was recently nominated  for the Award  by the Uganda Law Society in the Human Rights Lawyer category for the year 2016/2017. She was nominated alongside Mr.Nicholas Opiyo, the Executive Director of Chapter Four Uganda and Mr. Ladislus Rwkafuuzi, a lawyer with Rwakafuuzi & Co.Advocates,who emerged winner.

The winners were announced at the Uganda Law Society Awards Gala Dinner held at Serena Hotel on 28th March 2018. Other notable winners of the night included: Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach Amoko awarded for her distinguished service in the administration of justice and Professor Fredrick Jjuuko for his distinguished service in the promotion of legal education.The Hon. Chief Justice Bart Katureebe (in red tie), Hon. Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo(in grey tie), Hon. Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine (in blue tie), Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko of the Supreme Court of Uganda (who won the Distinguished Service in the Administration of Justice Award) and ULS President Francis Gimara (in bow-tie)at the ULS Annual Awards Gala held on 28 March 2018 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The ceremony was officiated over by Hon. Bart Katureebe, the Chief Justice of Uganda. In his remarks, he recognized the outgoing ULS President Francis Gimara and his council for having put a mark on the development of the rule of law, noting that the incoming president would be challenged to follow in his footsteps since he had raised the bar high.

He congratulated all winners especially Justice Stella Arch noting that it was him who recommended her for appointment as a judge. He applauded her work and referred to her as a mentor since she had served more years in the judiciary than himself.

He concluded by thanking the Uganda Law Society for organizing a great event and recognizing distinguished legal practitioners, all the ULS members for their participation and the sponsors for supporting the legal fraternity and the justice sector in general.
