To Improve networking, collaboration and coordination among legal aid service providers in Uganda.                                                                     

Our Mandate

To strengthen coordination and networking of LASPs, harmonisation and standardisation of legal aid service provision by the different service providers, lobbying and advocacy to facilitate a favourable legal and policy environment.

Features & Highlights

The 5th National CSO Fair

  National CSO Fair is an annual event organized by the Uganda National NGO Forum, to provide space for mutual learning, forging viable networks, building solidarity and taking part in debates and discussions with citizens, Government and other stakeholders on development issues and concerns. This 5th National CSO Fair took place on 25th and 26th June 2015 at Hotel Africana, Kampala, under the theme, “Leaving no one behind: Uganda’s Place in the Next Global Development Agenda”. LASPNET participated at the CSO fair through an Exhibition and convening a parallel session under the theme, “A National legal aid framework that promotes peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.”

Children’s right to education should be promoted and upheld by all- By Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa (Executive Director- LASPNET)

As we begun the second term this week, all school going children and their parents looked forward with enthusiasm to a new term. Unfortunately for the children who have to depend on the good will of government, this dream was ruined as their teachers laid down their tools in demand of a better pay. Hence while the children of the first and middle class citizens were happily taken to school   to start the second semester, the poor and lower class citizens looked on helplessly or went to school only to be welcomed by empty classrooms.

LASPNET Condemns Death of Student by Mob Justice

The Legal Aid Service Provider’s Network has come out strongly to condemn the gruesome act of Mob Justice which was inflicted on a Makerere University Alumnus, Mr. David Ojok (RIP) leading to his demise.

    The Legal Aid Service Providers Network has got a new leader! A familiar face in the legal aid field, Ms Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa has been appointed the Network’s new Executive Director, succeeding Mr. Richard Nsumba Muganzi who held the position for one year after serving as the National Coordinator for the same organization for over six years.

    LASPNET would like to congratulate her former Board Chair and Executive Director of the Initiative for Social and Economic Rights, Ms Salima Namusobya for being appointed as one of the expert members of the Working Group on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Africa at the African Comission on Human and Peoples' Rights. This was revealed at during the 17th Extraordinary Sesssion held from 19th to 28th February 2015 in Banjul, The Gambia. It is a window of opportunity to engage with the African Commission and comes in an opportune time as this year, Uganda will be reviewed by the African Commission at the session which will sit on 21st April to 7th May 2015. ABOUT LASPNET

The Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET) is a national member NGO established in 2004 to provide strategic linkages and a collaboration framework for the Legal Aid Service Providers and maintain a common front to interface with various actors in the Justice, Law and Order Sector in Uganda. It targets three critical aspects of coordination: a collective role bringing together different LASPs for solidarity in strategizing, sharing lessons and experiences, while minimizing duplication; capacitating them through collaborative research and analysis ; as well as documenting, providing needed feedback, and amplifying voice on key issues regarding access to justice/legal aid at regional, national or international level.
