To strengthen coordination and networking of LASPs, harmonisation and standardisation of legal aid service provision by the different service providers, lobbying and advocacy to facilitate a favourable legal and policy environment.

EOC-LASPNET PARTNER TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR THE INDIGENT

 
In a bid to identify, develop and expand areas of cooperation for the attainment of social justice formarginalized Ugandans through legal aid service provision, LASPNET has signed a memorandum of Understanding with the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC). The MOU signed today 25th April 2017 will see both institutions jointly conduct activities aimed at furthering the fulfillment of each other’s mandates. Such activities will include; legal awareness and sensitization, popularizing the mandates of both institutions, case referrals, representing applicants at EOC tribunal sessions, joint lobbying and advocacy for improved legal and policy framework, among others.

Mr. Ojuko Joel Cox, a Commission member who signed on behalf of the EOC said he was happy the initiative that began in October 2016 was coming to fruition. He reiterated the Commission’s mandate of building synergies to improve access to justice and equalizing opportunities for all regardless of status. He committed absolute compliance by the Commission as per the terms of the agreement.

Ms.Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa, the Executive Director LASPNET upon signing, applauded the Commission for formalizing the relationship with the Network stating that she was “excited to see the partnership work for the benefit of the most vulnerable in the country”.

The MOU was signed at the EOC premises in Bugolobi, Kampala and was witnessed by Prof.Olwor Sunday Nicholas, Ag.Secretary to the Commission and Ms. Jamidah Namuyanja, the Networking and Partnership Officer for LASPNET.
